2005 Overview: The Seattle Mariners provided little for fans to become exited about in 2005. Seattle ended the 2005 season posting the 3rd worse record in the American League finishing up 69-93 which was only a 6 game improvement from the previous year. The Mariners also managed to only score a total of 699 runs all season which ranked 2nd worse in the entire American League behind the Minnesota Twins. The starting lineup for the 2005 Mariners offered very little in the way of offensive spark. Newly acquired 1st baseman Richie Sexson (.263 39 121) proved to become a fan favorite while Adrian Beltre (.255 19 87) also helped. But beyond Raul Ibanez (.280 20 89) and superstar Japanese import Ichiro Suzuki (.303 15 88 33 steals) there really wasn’t much offense to speak of on the club. The 2005 starting pitching also proved somewhat spotty with only Jamie Moyer (13-7 4.28) and Gil Meche (10-8 5.89) posting winning records for the season. Starters Ryan Franklin (8-15 5.10) and Joel Pineiro (7-11 5.62) failed to impress only winning a combined 15 games between the two of them. The only real bright spot in the rotation beyond Moyer and Meche was rookie Felix Hernandez (4-4 2.67). Hernandez was brought up in August and posted an impressive 2-2 record with a 1.84 ERA, striking out 45 in 44 innings while allowing a 1.66 ERA to left-handed batters in his debut month. Relief pitcher Eddie Guardado (2-3 2.72 36 saves) also posted decent numbers out of the bullpen by doubling his save total from 2004. Off Season Moves: Perhaps the biggest move during the 2005 off season for the Mariners was re-signing Jamie Moyer to help keep the starting pitching stable. The Mariners wasted no time by resigning Moyer on December 7th. Jarrod Washburn (8-8 3.20) was also picked up in order to help the starting rotation while the Mariners added some offense as well by signing free agents Matt Lawton (.254 13 53) from Pittsburgh as well as Carl Everett (.251 23 87). Seattle also acquired veteran infielder Fernando Vina (.226 in 29 games with Detroit in 2005). 2006 Analysis: New pitching coach Rafael Chaves looks to have Hernandez and Moyer provide some much needed stability to a weak starting rotation. Look for Hernandez to develop nicely with some much needed guidance. Everett and Lawton will help the lineup greatly. Both will provide better protection for Sexson, Beltre and Suzuki making the 2006 offense more fun to watch then the 2005 version. Expect Seattle to score more then 699 runs with this lineup. The Mariners still lack much needed depth in their starting rotation. Hernandez should have a strong 2006 season and fans should be hopeful that perhaps a surprise or two can pull the Mariners from the basement. Kevin Appier was signed to a minor league contract in early January and if healthy may be just what the rotation has been looking for. Appier managed to post 14 wins in 2002, so the Mariners are optimistic that he has a chance to rebound.

Taking care of your rc nitro cars
Are you taking proper care of your RC nitro cars? A little bit of preparation can save you a lot of money in repair costs. Learning the basics of rc engine operations and proper maintenance will lengthen the life of your RC nitro cars and help you keep your vehicles in top shape. RC Nitro Engines The RC nitro car’s engine works very similar to a regular car engine. There are several parts of the engine that require attention for your vehicle to work at peak performance. Here are the main components RC vehicles rely on for efficient driving and the preventative maintenance you should take. Fuel and Fuel Lines The fuel used by RC nitro engines is a combination of nitro methane and a synthetic or castor oil lubricant. You must use the proper fuel combination for your vehicle. If your RC car is running poorly you need to examine the fuel system. Cracks or debris in the fuel lines may cause the engine to cut out. It is advantageous to check your vehicle’s fuel lines each time before running it. Clean out dirty lines. If you find problems consult your user manual before operating the vehicle. Air Filter The air filter is an essential component to your engine. The air filter clears out dirt and debris from the engine which permits it to run smoothly. If the air filter becomes clogged then dirt and heat will get trapped in the engine making it work harder to draw air in. This can substantially affect its performance or even damage the engine. Air filters can often be cleaned rather than replaced. If the air filter in the model you own is very expensive to replace you may wish to clean the existing air filter carefully and reuse it. Weighing the costs of an engine repair (if the cleaning is not thorough) with the costs of a replacement filter may be wise when determining the value of replacement versus cleaning. Tuning the Engine While nitro engines can be more difficult to set up than their electric counterparts they also allow for the operator to adjust the engine and the vehicle’s performance. The carburetor permits you to adjust the amount of air/fuel mixture that is being used by the engine. A low mix of fuel is called ‘lean’ while a high ratio of fuel to air is ‘rich’. Making small adjustments to the mix according to the driving conditions will fine tune the driving. On the other hand you need to be cautious that the mixture is not too lean or rich as this can damage the engine. Tires Check the tires on your RC nitro cars before putting them out on the track. Check that they are balanced following the instructions in your user’s manual. This is especially important during the initial setup. Testing Whenever you are putting an RC car on the road for the first time or after it has been shelved for awhile you should test the vehicle and tune it before running it fast or on rough terrain. After driving the vehicle check it for debris. Make sure the parts move freely and have not become clogged with mud or dust. Running the vehicle without ensuring it is clean can cause costly damage to the engine or other parts. Talk to experts about the recommended upkeep necessary for your chosen vehicle. Some models will have more expensive maintenance costs than others and may be a factor to consider when choosing your vehicle.

Oakland a s vs. texas rangers
Barry Zito from the A’s is looking now like in his best days back in 2002 when he won the Cy Young award. Zito allowed eight hits over seven scoreless innings and the A's patiently battered Jamie Moyer in their third straight victory 7-2 over the Seattle Mariners last week. "I just have a mentality where I'm going out there and not trying to be too fine, not thinking too much," Zito said. "I'm just letting my stuff work for me. Just trust my stuff, trust myself." With five key players on the disabled list after a rash of injuries, the A's are back above .500 at 20-19 and in a first-place tie with Texas in the AL West. Despite those injuries, they’re a team that has plenty of talent and will to get back to the winning side of the record. If they play good with all there key players injured imagine what they will play like once everybody is back and healthy. Lineup 1. Mark Kotsay, CF. 2.Jason Kendall, C. 3.Eric Chavez, 3rd B. 4.Frank Thomas, DH. 5. Bobby Crosby, SS. 6.Nick Swisher, 1stB. 7. Jay Payton, LF. 8. Bobby Kielty, RF. 9.Marco Scutaro, 2nd B. After an impressive game held on Tuesday against the Yankees in which the score was 14-13 in favor of the Yankees, the Rangers fell again on Tuesday 4-3. It wasn’t such an exciting game like the one on Tuesday but it still was good. It seems that the games between this two are becoming more and more interesting because both teams play really good against each other. The Yankees were winning 4-1 in the in the seventh, but Gary Matthews Jr. hit a two-run homer in the eighth for Texas, cutting it to 4-3. Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his eighth save in nine chances. "It's tough to lose like that. I didn't think they hit me very hard. They just found holes at opportune times," Loe said. "I felt like I was making my pitches. I felt like I was in control. Maybe my pitch selection could have been better." In both games the Rangers were very close to get the victory but the powerful offense of the Yankees was better than theirs. Maybe they can change the story this week as they face the Oakland A’s, a team with a lot of injuries right now. That can give some advantage to the Rangers, so if you like sports betting this is a perfect opportunity to bet on a great game as I’m sure it will be between these two teams. Lineup 1. Gary Matthews Jr., CF. 2.Michael Young, SS. 3.Mark Teixeira, 1st B. 4. Phil Nevin, DH. 5. Hank Blalock, 3rdB. 6. Kevin Mench, RF. 7.Brad Wilkerson, LF. 8. Mark DeRosa, 2nd B. 9. Gerald Laird, C.

How model airplanes fly
After the successful flight of the man-carrying vehicle made by the Wright brothers, interest in aviation spread rapidly and many models were made. Model airplane enthusiasts are already existing in the early 1900s'. Most of the models are rubber powered, twining type with double stick fuselages that are common in Europe. But even in the early days of model flying, small petrol and compressed air engines are already being used. The materials used in model constructions are birch strips, veneer, spruce, piano wire or bamboo and oiled silk covering. Then balsa structure and tissue covering appeared in the United States in the late 1920s'. So much for the history of model aircraft. So you see, even today, the airplane structure and how it fly is no different from the one we are flying today. The wings, fuselage, vertical and horizontal stabilizers, propellers, engines, landing gears are the same. The airplane, to fly and have control during flight uses them. The wings are obviously responsible why the airplane can stay in the air for a long time. With proper design of the airplane, dimensions, weight considerations and aerodynamic design characteristics it will fly successfully. The aerodynamic principles behind it is what really makes it fly. But even though it has a good design, weight and balance plays a major role. There was a saying that “a feather flies better than a brick” which is true because a very heavy airplane won’t fly if it cannot be sustained by its power plant (engine, propeller, and fuel tank). And with regards to balancing, a well-balanced airplane is controllable during flight. Usually the fulcrum or center of gravity is located ј of the wing chord. Balancing it is by placing your fingers on both sides of the wing, then relocating the receiver, batteries and servos until the airplane is balanced. You may ask why the center of gravity is located ј of the wing chord? It has something to do with aerodynamic center, neutral point that can be explained in detail with some illustrations by following the link on the bottom. When you look at the cross section of the wing, the shape is called an airfoil. Basically the airfoil consist of upper and lower camber, leading and trailing edge. When the airplane is flying, there are aerodynamic forces that interact with the wings, vertical and horizontal stabilizers because the airplane is going against the air or commonly called “relative wind”. Then it creates a variance of pressure on the upper versus the lower camber of the airfoil (or the wing itself) which generates lift. The air that passed the lower camber should have a higher pressure against the upper camber to sustain flight. This has something to do with law of continuity. The air molecules that separates from the leading edge, going to the upper and lower camber, should meet at the trailing edge at the same time. Since the upper camber has a greater curve than the lower camber, the distance on the upper camber is longer and therefore requires more velocity to meet the air on the lower camber. This creates a lower pressure on the upper camber based on the Bernoulli's theorem, "as the velocity of air increases, pressure decreases" Hope my brief explanation is understandable. If you want to know the details with visual aids about the model airplane theory of flight, I suggest going to my site: rcaeronautics4dodos. filipinovegetarianrecipe

Drivers need to stop complaining
Looking like he is already in championship form, Jimmie Johnson passed Tony Stewart with three laps remaining to win the Kobalt Tools 500 in Atlanta Sunday. Johnson led 132 of the first 238 laps and then the last three to win the 25th Nextel Cup race of his career. Johnson gave much of the credit to crew chief Chad Knaus for making adjustments during the race, and specifically on the last pit stop. Following the final pit stop Johnson passed Matt Kenseth and then Stewart. Stewart had the lead on the final restart but after some exciting side by side racing with Johnson, Johnson’s inside pass was the pivotal moment. Kenseth finished third and Jeff Burton finished fourth. Johnson moved to within 28 points of chase leader Mark Martin in the Nextel Cup standings. Martin, who finished 10th remains in the points lead eight points ahead of second place Jeff Gordon. Martin’s lead should come to an end after next week since he reiterated his plans to sit out the next two races in the partial schedule he will run this year. Jeff Burton is third in the points, 11 behind Martin and Johnson is in fourth. Juan Pablo Montoya continues his rapid learning curve as he carded the best result of his Nextel Cup career finishing in fifth. Montoya, who won the Busch race in Mexico City two weeks ago, says he and his crew are “getting the hang of it”. Most drivers were obviously concerned about tire wear and tear and took it easy early in the race. The Goodyear tires held up well and for half the race with the drivers just clicking off laps is seemed to be a pretty boring race. Atlanta Race Notes: Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s struggles in 2007 continue. He is 26th in the point standings. Brian Vickers became the first driver to lead a lap in a Nextel Cup race in a Toyota. His joy was short-lived, he had engine trouble and ended up in the garage with a 42nd place finish. The biggest wreck of the day was a four car incident the included Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, David Reutimann, and Brian Vickers. Many drivers in Atlanta couldn’t help but thinking about next weeks Bristol race and the debut of the new larger, boxier Car of Tomorrow. Kyle Busch will showcase endangered wildlife on his car this year to call attention to animal rescue and conservation education at Sea World and Busch Gardens. A bald eagle, penguins and a kangaroo were at the media center in Atlanta this past week for the announcement. Drivers Need to Stop Complaining Tony Stewart said “They screwed up a great racetrack!” Mark Martin predicted gloom and doom after the Busch race last Saturday, and Jeff Gordon said he planned to sit down with NASCAR officials after last Sunday’s Las Vegas Motor Speedway Nextel Cup race. Lately if one thing is as certain as death and taxes, it will be stock car racers complaining about the track and conditions they have to race in each week. In reality it was not “black ice” as Greg Biffle called it, or was there a wreck on every lap as Kasey Kahne boldly predicted. It was a different track than they had raced on in Vegas in the past, slight track improvements were made and 8 degrees of banking were added as well a revamping of pit road. Speeds were topping 200 mph during testing in January, and Goodyear’s tire for LVMS was hard and didn’t grip the track very well. What’s the big deal? NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers are paid big buck to make left turns and complete 267 in Las Vegas every March. If the track unsafe for driving with 42 other cars at blazing speeds racers need to make adjustments. The conditions are the same for everybody. When Tiger Woods goes to Scotland for the British Open and the conditions are wet, rainy and gale force winds whip up over the lochs and channels he can’t play the same game as he would in Hilton Head at the Heritage Golf Classic. Different conditions at different tracks make NASCAR racing much more interesting to Joe Fan in Hoover Alabama. If every track was the same, racing teams could set the car up each week, teach a chimpanzee to grip a steering wheel and hit a gas pedal and let him go. It would be mindless racing each weekend which translates into BORING. These drivers are too good to be pouting each time a track doesn’t suit their cars perfectly. It is a long season and each week the warriors of the NASCAR circuit hit a different track in a different city. There are many great stories and races that need to be talked and written aboutplaining and crying about the track each week doesn’t need to be one of them.
